Living Intentionally in Exposé

I’ve never been a big soccer fan, but since many World Cup matches are being played this year in our backyard (ATT Stadium), I thought I’d watch some games and see what they were like. I happened to catch the opening ceremony of one of the games and was quite taken with it. I loved how both teams marched onto the field, in order, to stirring music and ended standing in a circle in the middle of the field. Then, as each team’s national anthem played, every single member of the team and the crowd sang along. They belted out the words with gusto. As tears filled their eyes, I found myself crying, too, caught up in their patriotic fervor, no matter what country. At that moment, we were united; we were one.

Moments like that are powerful because we are so caught up in the moment, our worries and cares melt away, differences do not divide us, no inner divisions torment us. We are swept along on the tide of unity with others and individual wholeness. It comes to us unbidden and feels like a breakthrough of the divine within us. This is no small thing. If we are able to give ourselves over wholly to this moment, imagine how much greater the effect can be when we experience such moments within, like when a particularly beautiful sunset takes our breath away. Or, with significant others—family reunions, weddings, even concerts. We feel happiest when we have that sense of internal unity and/or connection with others.

This year, I hope that just by being aware of the power of such moments, we will be available to more and more of them, through living intentionally. As the year unfolds, hopefully the theme of living intentionally will be revealed in even more ways. Please join me in the journey.
